Frequently asked questions
The main reason we get our gutters cleared is to maintain our property, once our gutters start getting blocked, rainwater cannot run directly to your down pipe, and this is when the issues begin. 90% of our business is clearing gutters. There are two main ways to clear gutters, direct from a ladder or from a gutter vacuum (for higher areas such as three-story property’s or awkward areas like above conservatory roofs). Deans Gutters have all the necessary equipment to carry out these jobs in a safe and successful way.
There are two lines of thought on this, the main one being of safety, obviously using a gutter-vac is the safest option BUT clearing gutters from a ladder is more hands-on especially on down pipes. At Deans Gutters we prefer the ladder option, we use commercial ladders fitted with a balance bar and use stand off's at the top to protect your gutter. We carry gutter-vacs for more awkward areas above conservatory roofs and three storey work like roof dormers. We are very safety concise and don’t take risks when working at height.
This is a question I’m asked a lot, and it all depends on the location of your house, obviously if you are surrounded by trees or have a lot of moss on your roof then you will need to have your gutters cleared more regularly than a house in the city centre. On average 40% of my clients become yearly customers, with another 40% having them cleared every other year, I also have clients l see twice yearly, location dictates.
As a basic rule, when we clean gutters, we also include the fascia & soffits, along with the down pipes. We can also offer conservatory roof cleaning and UPVC cladding cleaning. One of the most important parts of this service is an inspection before any work begins, just to assess the condition of the gutters and to manage customers’ expectations. Most guttering will look amazing after a good clean, but it’s impossible to make a 20 year old weathered gutter look new. An outside tap is essential, we have all the up-to-date equipment to give you the best possible results!
A blocked soak away is often mistaken for blocked gutters, once the soak away is blocked the rain water has no where to run away to, so it fills the down pipe up with water and over flows at the top. Blocked soak away is a drainage issue, we can easily identify a blocked soak away and this is normally picked up on the inspection before we carry out any work.
The whole point of your down pipe is to take away the rain water from your property into a drain or soak away. When your down pipe is blocked there is nowhere for the rain water to go, so it fills up your gutters until it floods over the top. Blocked down pipes are one of the major causes of damp. More often than not a blocked down pipe will need to be taken apart and cleared by hand. On average we are unblocking down pipes most days as part of routine gutter clearance.
When it comes to prices for gutter clearing, cleaning or repairs, l always like to have a look beforehand. I will always arrange a time with the client, and pop by for a look. I can give you a price there and then and normally book you in for the work to be done. On average I’m 1-2 weeks booked in advance. There is no call out charge from Deans Gutters.
